29 Weeks and counting!

Well, hello 29 weeks! Oddly when we began this journey I didn't think I would see you. But here we are, and with nothing but GREAT news! Who would have ever thought?

I had an appointment today, a little bummed we didn't check their growth and weights but based on how they have been doing all three babies should be around the 3 pound mark. That's a lot of baby! Today we did a general check and a test called a BPP where they check fluid pockets, breathing, cord flow, movement, and muscle tone. All three babies scored 8/8! Baby B was a little hesitant to show us he could practice breathing but he finally did and looked good. All the babies had awesome fluid around them, were quite active once we woke them up, and had strong heart rates. Two weeks ago everyone was in the 50th percentile for growth, and they said most higher order multiples tend to be on the smaller side but we have normal size babies as if they were singletons. Go figure!

About a week ago, I had this horrible pain and heavy contractions for about 15 minutes. It started with pressure, then contractions, then pain that literally took my breathe away. Once things calmed down, one side of my stomach was beyond sore and it hurt to touch my stomach. I had no idea what happened, and I assumed that maybe Baby B had flipped, because that's the side he is on. Well, sure enough, I was right! We now have A and B head down but C is still sitting transverse up top.  In an ideal situation, he needs to be head down as well. If all three are head down then we have our doctors full support on a vaginal delivery. But, even if he stays transverse, we are not at loss!

Our MFM said he doesn't recommend a vaginal if all three aren't head down. It isn't textbook, and there are few cases medically studied to refer to. But, if I say that is what I want, then it is ultimately my choice. (Basically, he can offer the best textbook advice, because if he recommends something else I could sue him if something were to go unexpectedly wrong.) However, I know from my own reading and research that once A and B vacate the premises C has a bunch of room and may decide to go head down (or doc can reach up there and pull him out). No matter what direction you take there will be risks. No matter what scenario the babies will be delivered in an OR, and I at the very least will have an epidural port in place should an emergency situation arise and we need babies out.

But this is the first glimmer of optimism that a vaginal birth is a real possibility. Doc even said he would be excited if we could do this vaginally! I'm just gonna stick some ice on Baby C and tell him to flip on down. Worked with Charlotte, can't hurt! Ha!

Here are the pictures we got today:

 Baby A's HB, 146
 Baby B's HB, 140
Baby C's HB, 176 (He was a little wiggly!)
 Profile for Baby A
 Baby C's foot
 Baby C's hand
Sweet little Baby A's face. She was squished up against her brothers head.
Baby A's profile, you can see her separating membrane kind of draping her face. Brother is off to the side.
More sweet baby girl face.

We were lucky to get some 3D of Addisyn, as with multiples it is difficult to do. With 3D, they need a pocket of fluid in front of what they are taking a picture of. With singletons, that is easy. With multiples, there is usually another baby in front of what they want to capture. The boys were turned away towards my spine, so we couldn't get anything of them really, fluid or not. But because everyone has a lot of fluid we were able to get some squished pictures of her. :)

As for me, I am doing good. My SPD is bad some days. My BP was great tpday 110/68 but I am spilling a little bit of protein. Since my BP is good, we aren't concerned and are just going to keep an eye out. Any symptoms of high blood pressure is to be looked at, such as headaches, spots, and swelling. But, since I have none of those going on, it could just be nothing.

I feel like I have been pregnant forever, and will continue to stay pregnant forever. Doctor agreed that he thinks we can get 33 weeks reasonably, and that we are out of the scariest part of early babies. For right now, if I don't go into labor on my own we are looking at an induction around 36 weeks (second week of September) should babies continue to look good. If we need to deliver earlier we will cross that hurdle, or if I go into labor on my own before then. I've been feeling really at peace emotionally with how things are going. I think hitting that 28 week mark, each day is such a blessing and I can worry a little less all the time. I don't feel like I am going to go into labor anytime soon, and no matter how these babies come out, I feel confident they will be healthy. Not sure why I feel this way, but I am going to roll with it!

I will update with a belly picture when I am able to get my husband the photographer (wink wink) to take one for me. Sunday we have our maternity pictures, and I am super excited about those! Until next time everyone!

Our Birth Story

Women don't want vaginal births so they can receive an award, or a trophy, or acknowledgement. Women want vaginal births because their body was made to birth a baby. Or two. Or three. The first thing I said when we learned we were carrying not one, but three babies, was that I didn't want a c-section. It wasn't that I had anything against c-sections...they are an amazing thing that when needed saves lives. However, I knew I would be essentially forced into one and that didn't sit well. I had dreamed up this amazing birth like the two I had before. My support system around me as we gently welcomed our new baby into the world. Tears, happiness, togetherness. Suddenly, that came crashing down. I would have to leave my midwife, whom I trusted and loved, and switch to an Ob who wouldn't give me the time I was used to. Who didn't know me or my body and how it delivered babies. When I first began looking for a new provider, I was right in my assumpt...

Adventures in Breastfeeding

**Warning, Blog Contains Breastfeeding Pictures. Proceed at own risk ;) Pumping suck. There, I said it. I knew I would have to do some pumping, but I didn't think I would be doing this much. It makes me feel bad for cows, really. And not only does pumping suck, but so do bottles, and the mountain of them I seemed to be buried by every single day. I call this my bag of tricks ;) So I somehow got stuck in this downward spiral, and while my birth was about as close to perfect as I could have envisioned, our breastfeeding journey has not been. I know it's unrealistic to have this perfect image in your head and it actually happen, but we are getting there... it just didn't happen right away. I had lovely babies with great latches from the beginning. Yes, sometimes we had to fix a shallow latch, but they were preemies. And for them being early, we were all amazed they wanted to latch and they wanted to breastfeed, despite their sleepiness.   Sometimes, y...

34 Weeks, Let the Countdown begin!

As each week passes, I just thank God we have made it so far. It's so hard to believe that we are nearing the end of this journey, only to begin a new journey! Our doctor appointment today was not uneventful. Baby A (Addisyn) weighed in at 4 pounds 1 ounce. Baby B (Bentley) weighed in at 5 pounds 1 ounce. Baby C (Connor) weighed in at 4 pounds 10 ounces. Almost 14 pounds of baby in there, and let me tell you- my body feels it! During their ultrasound, Addisyn decided in her usual fashion to be a little bit of a pain. She was hard to measure because she is sitting so low in my pelvis. She also is starting to exhibit signs of IUGR, as her growth is slowing. She is still growing, but on a curve she is starting to flat line out if that makes sense. Her fluids, while last week looked okay, were very very borderline today. They want to see pockets of 2+ and she was 2.03. She also didn't want to practice her breath, thankfully she did when the doctor looked at her again, beca...
